Conjure Motion ✦ where dance becomes ritual, and archetypes come alive in the body ✦

A Ritual Dance Practice to Attune. Align. Embody. Direct.

Conjure Motion is a transformational movement system for mystics, artists, and seekers who crave more than just choreography. They crave embodied initiation.

Created by Tanya Lee, Conjure Motion translates elemental, zodiacal and tarot symbolism into a structured movement vocabulary; one that honours both fire and feeling, precision and intuition, structure and soul.

Here, movement is magick. Here, we dance to awaken the part of ourselves that remembers who we were before the world told us to be small. We breathe life into symbols. We rewrite inherited stories through the body. We lead ourselves home.

Each movement carries a distinct symbolic and energetic intelligence. As students develop fluency, they learn not only to express an archetype, but to recognize its gifts, shadows, relationships and distortions, and make conscious choices about how to embody it.

What do we mean by Dance Alchemy?

In Conjure Motion, alchemy is not simply the experience of being changed by movement. It is the disciplined practice of learning how transformation works, and how to participate in it consciously.

We work with symbolic forces in their full complexity: their gifts and shadows, their relationships and distortions. Through the body, we learn when to open, contain, initiate, sustain, sever, negotiate and transform.

The physical language of Conjure Motion reflects the many disciplines Tanya has trained in and studied throughout her career. Its movement stylization is rooted primarily in American Fusion Belly Dance, with specialized training in the systems and methodologies of SIGIL, Datura and DanceCraft, as well as influences from SWANA dance forms, Caribbean and Polynesian movement, and martial arts. Tanya’s background in yoga therapy, bodybuilding and physical conditioning contributes a deep understanding of strength, alignment, muscular engagement and the deliberate shaping of the body.

These physical influences are brought into relationship with tarot, astrology, Hermetic Qabalah and ceremonial magick. Movement is not used simply to illustrate these systems; their symbolic patterns provide the underlying architecture through which the vocabulary is organized, interpreted and consciously practised.

The result is a modern alchemical art form: part movement discipline, part symbolic language and part living ritual practice.

Recognize the Force.
Embody the Force.
Relate through the Force.
Transform through the Force.

RECOGNIZE. EMBODY. RELATE. TRANSFORM.

Frequently asked questions

How is Conjure Motion different from other dance classes?

Conjure Motion is not free-form dance with a magical theme. It is a codified movement language built from dance, elemental magick, astrology, tarot and the body. Students learn specific movements associated with distinct symbolic forces and how to recognize, embody and consciously work with those forces in personal practice, group improvisation, ritual and performance.

Rather than simply surrendering to an energy, we develop the discernment to understand what we are embodying, how it behaves and how we want to work with it.

Do I need dance experience to participate?

Not at all. Conjure Motion welcomes all bodies, all levels, and all expressions. Whether you’re brand new to dance or a seasoned mover, the practices are designed to meet you where you are and grow with you over time.

What kind of movement do you teach?

The movement is rooted in American Fusion Bellydance, with influence from SWANA traditions, Polynesian and Caribbean forms, contemporary dance, martial arts, yoga, and original motions that developed organically on the festival dance floor. Global Electronic Dance Music (EDM) guide the rhythmic pulse of our movements. It's often described as fluid, expressive, and deeply intentional.

The bones of the system as a whole were created through the 'Sigil Method' (Amy Sigil) of organizing dance moves into categories (ie. Stall Moves, Combinations, Pass Thrus, etc). These structured categories allow the dance form to be transformed into smooth improvisational experiences within a group of movers who "speak" the Conjure Motion dance language. This allows us to do divinatory dances in the moment!

Can I participate if have no previous knowledge of astrology or tarot?

Yes. While these archetypal systems are woven into the fabric of the work, you don’t need to be an expert (or even familiar) to benefit.

You do not need any previous knowledge of astrology or tarot. We introduce these systems through the body, using them as symbolic maps for understanding different ways of moving, relating and responding to life. You can experience the practice physically and psychologically while developing the mystical knowledge over time.

Is everything online or are there in-person events too?

Most offerings are available online via Zoom and downloadable resources, but in-person classes, intensives, workshops, live events and performances happen seasonally in Calgary and beyond.

Be sure to join the newsletter for updates on pop-ups, performances, and seasonal intensives.

If you would like to host a Conjure Motion workshop, retreat or event in your area - let us know!

Can I join Wheel of Secrets anytime?

Wheel of Secrets program enrollment opens 4 times a year at 0° of each cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn). Between portals, you can listen to the podcast freely on Spotify, participate in ongoing classes and workshops in Calgary and join the waitlist to be notified when the circle opens again.

What if I feel nervous about performing or being seen?

You’re not alone. Conjure Motion honors both the hidden and the radiant parts of you. You are never required to perform. Our focus is on expression, healing, and reclamation. This movement was originally created as a personal practice, secondarily as a performance art. If you ever choose to step onto the stage, it will be in your own time.

More Questions - Oh My!

What if I have two left feet and a chaotic moon sign?

Welcome home. This is not about perfect lines—it’s about alignment. If your body holds a story, you can dance it here.

Will this unlock my inner witch/dancer/archetypal self?

Yes. Side effects may include: sudden bursts of confidence, crying during moon meditations, impeccable playlist taste, and feeling inexplicably powerful while walking to the grocery store.

What’s behind the next turn of the wheel?

That’s the secret. Come find out.
